Experience extraordinary vacations
Burghausen
In the old ducal town, the world’s longest castle awaits you with a length of over one kilometer. On the Salzach, you can experience the surroundings from a completely new perspective on a flat-bottomed boat trip – recently also on stand-up paddle boards. The Raitenhaslach monastery and the Wöhrsee lake are also popular excursion destinations. If you come during the Jazz Week or the castle festival, you can also enjoy musical and medieval entertainment. Be sure to visit the Grüben artists’ alley with its charming stores!
Berchtesgaden
Berchtesgaden, with its breathtaking Alpine panorama, is predestined for hiking tours with spectacular views: to the blue-green shimmering Königssee, the imposing Watzmann, Wendelstein and Jenner mountains or to the Kampenwand and the Eagle’s Nest. It is also an excellent place for mountain biking or skiing.
Raitenhaslach
The Burghausen district of Raitenhaslach, located on the Salzach river, has its own charm: the venerable monastery in the parish village boasts impressive architecture. Raitenhaslach is also home to the academy center of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in a late baroque building. A detour to the Marienberg pilgrimage church is also worthwhile.
Lake Chiemsee
A place of longing for many travelers: Lake Chiemsee, also known as the Bavarian Sea. On a bike tour around the Chiemsee or a visit to the famous Fraueninsel with Herrenchiemsee Castle, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings at the foot of the Bavarian Alps with all your senses. It is also worth making a detour to the Chiemsee Roman region, which includes 11 surrounding communities.
Tittmoning
Tittmoning Castle offers a fantastic view. The Leitgeringer See lake offers relaxation not far from the town. With the parish church of St. Laurentius, the pilgrimage church of Maria Brunn zu Ponlach and the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the village of Asten, Tittmoning also has some impressive religious buildings to marvel at.
Ruhpolding
Do you love desserts? Then a visit to the Windbeutelgräfin in Ruhpolding is an absolute must! The amusement park and fairytale park is fun for young and old alike. You can really step on the gas on the Chiemgau Coaster summer toboggan run. Those who prefer a quieter pace can hike to the Rauschberg or Unternberg. In winter, you can go skiing, sledging or tobogganing in the Reit im Winkl ski resort in the Bavarian Alps, which is around 45 minutes away.
Altötting
Altötting is known for its Chapel of Grace, the Basilica of St. Anna and its attractive pilgrimage routes. But the place of pilgrimage has even more to offer: The convivial beer festival, the Altöttinger Hofdult, the monastery market, the traditional Kirta or the Christmas market are also worth a visit.
Passau
The rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz come together in Passau, right on the border with Austria. The imposing cathedral and the Veste Oberhaus castle complex are impressive witnesses to their time.
Salzburg
Anyone staying overnight on the Austrian border cannot avoid a detour to the city of Mozart, including a visit to his birthplace and today’s museum. No less impressive is the city’s landmark, the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Hellbrunn Palace and its popular trick fountains are also worth a visit, as are the historic Getreidegasse in the heart of the old town and the Haus der Natur natural history museum. A must for all lovers of good taste: the Salzburger Nockerln dumplings or other culinary delights in one of the many cafés.
